Job Description
Manage, secure, monitor and optimize PostgreSQL databases for high availability and performance, and architect scalable, secure database solutions on AWS in a federal environment.
Key Responsibilities:
✅ Database health checks, monitoring, backup and recovery
✅ Database installation, updates and configuration
✅ Write complex SQL for analysis, transformation and reporting
✅ Query optimization, caching, clustering and auto-scaling
✅ Design DR, HA and failover (Multi-AZ, read replicas)
✅ Integrate databases with AWS Lambda, S3, EC2 and Glue
✅ Apply AWS security best practices (IAM, encryption, VPC, security groups)
✅ Meet SSA security, privacy and data management policies
✅ Guide junior and mid-level developers
Required:
🔹 10+ years as a Database Admin / Architect
🔹 Education and experience: Master's + 5 yrs, Bachelor's + 7 yrs, or 13+ yrs in lieu of a degree
🔹 PostgreSQL management, data modeling, normalization, schema design
🔹 Advanced SQL
🔹 Backup, DR, HA and failover design
🔹 AWS RDS PostgreSQL or other cloud PostgreSQL
🔹 Logical and physical data modeling
🔹 Server patching
🔹 Splunk
🔹 AWS: performance tuning, Lambda/S3/EC2/Glue, IAM, encryption, CloudWatch, CloudTrail
Desired:
🔸 Linux scripting for ETL and data migration
🔸 Automated testing, TDD, CI
🔸 Federal / public sector experience
🔸 Communicating technical topics to business stakeholders
